School Improvement Plan
Our school improvement plan contains three major initiatives for the 2009-10 school year. We have developed academic support study halls. In these study halls, students who have a failing grade in any of the core academic areas will receive individualized help by a teacher in the area of need. This additional support will increase the success rate of many students and lead to a greater graduation rate.
The second initiative is the implementation of the North West Evaluation Association assessments in math and literacy for all grade 9 and grade 10 students. These assessments provide teachers with specific information about a student's strengths and weaknesses in these areas. With this data teachers can adjust their instruction accordingly.
The third initiative is the establishment of a specific meeting time for Professional Learning Communities meeting three times per month. The P.L.C. is a group of teachers who teach the same subject and who come together for the purposes of student assessment and instructional improvement.
Each of the initiatives in this plan are research based and recognized as best practice by the National Association of Secondary Principals and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.
