I am proud to serve the students and staff of Waterford Public Schools!

Over the summer, curriculum work began on a revised K-12 Music Curriculum. The entire music department met for five days to begin the process. We are also working on writing curriculum for two new areas: K-12 Informational Technologies and K-12 School Counseling. Both committees for Informational Technologies and School Counseling began their work this summer are continuing to refine their drafts. We really feel students at all levels will benefit from a written curriculum in these important areas. We also had some small groups working on curriculum-related items. World Language teachers met for one day to work on reading assessments that they will be using this fall in all classes. A group of Social Studies teachers met to refine the Writing Lab curriculum and professional development was given to the entire department to ensure a consistent implementation of this course. A revision to the K-12 Art Curriculum will begin in 2013.
For this school year, we are continuing with our focus on literacy for all students. The staff has already put in so much work and this year we will be building upon the achievements already made. Departments will continue to work collaboratively this year, to ensure that students are being focused on literacy in all content areas. Keep up the good work!
Our curriculum leaders and department heads attended an Instructional Leaders workshop over the summer. This workshop really reinforced the role of being a "teacher leader", which will certainly assist this group with planning PLC, facilitating meetings, and being the true leader of their grade level / content area.
I look forward to another great school year!
