Snake

Fourth Grade Classes

Fourth grade students have started a drawing of a snake.  Characteristics of snakes have been discussed, such as curved, oval or triangular shaped head, patterns.  Students will use watercolor to paint the snake and patterns.  We are laso looking at Aboriginal art work for inspiration.  Students will be using tempera paint and pencil tip erasers to paint using dots, like the Aboriginals.  Then the snake will be scored, eyes and tonues will be added if desired.  The final result will be a threedimensional paper sculpture as the kids will fold on the scored line making the snake pop up.

Fourth Grade Classes

Fourth grade students have been painting a landscape picture showing depth and perspective and utilizing the entire space of the composition; foreground, middle ground and background.  Austrian artist, Gustav Klimt has been the inspiration for this painting.   Warm and cool colors are being painted in the background.  Black tempera paint is being used with cards to paint birch trees on white paper.  The trees will be cut out and glued to the watercolor background.  The trees were drawn and will be glued in various sections of the painting (foreground, middle ground and background) to create perspective.

Fourth grade classes are studying Franz Marc who with Wassily Kandinsky and Gabrielle Munter started The Blue Rider movement in 1911.  We are creating animal drawings with nature backgrounds which Marc explored in his paintings throughout his short career.
