GOOGLE DOCS
We are so excited about using Google Docs. Here are instructions for accessing your Google account:
1. Using Google Chrome as your browser (this is the best browser to support the program), go to google.com and click on "Sign In" in the top right corner.
2. Your e-mail address is your school login followed by: @my.waterfordschools.org
Your password is the same one you use to log onto the computers at school.
Click on "Sign In" and then "Continue."
3. When it prompts you to the Waterford Login, the user name and password are the exact same ones you use to get onto the computers at school.
4. Access your documents by going to the “More” tab at the top center of the screen and then selecting “Documents.” Any documents you've already created or those friends have shared with you should be right there. You can create new documents here, too.
5. Be sure you share your document with me and allow me to edit. For your narrative piece, you should give commenting privileges to your book group and to any other Garnet Team members whose input you value. Other students should not be allowed to edit your work on this piece!
6. I highly recommend creating "collections" for organizing your documents. Perhaps a folder titled "6th grade LA" would be particularly useful! Otherwise, you will end up with a very messy list of everything you create.
Cool Stuff About Google Docs:
- The program will frequently and automatically save for you, so no more freaking out that you forgot to save and closed the program.
- No more worries about forgetting your flash drive - either at home or at school.
- No more worries about saving to one of the school computer's hard drives by accident instead of your network folder (which you can't access at home).
- You can access your work anywhere you have Internet access: on your cell phone, at the library, home, school, anywhere! Imagine: you're sitting at your little brother's tee ball practice bored out of your mind - work on your story! You are hanging out after school waiting for your mom to pick you up - work on your story! Your best friend stayed home sick and you don't have anyone to talk to on the bus - work on your story! The possibilities are endless!
